About our drone roof survey in Holt Pound
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we are asked to look at most are chimney tops in poor condition and gaps where slates or tiles have gone.
Villages like Holt Pound often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Airspace, weather and Holt Pound roofs
In Surrey, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. The wider area around Holt Pound has a long history of building, with Farnham Castle about 2.7 miles north-east. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Saint James, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you look after a building like Rowledge Church of England Controlled Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
Holt Pound is about 2 miles south-west of Farnham, in Surrey. Surveys in Holt Pound work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. We cover towns and villages across Surrey. You can also see our page for Guildford.

What we cannot see
It helps to know what a survey will not do before you book:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

Holt Pound: your questions answered
Is my home in Holt Pound listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Holt Pound?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you as you book.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photographs, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, with the most urgent first where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
How fast do I get the report?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Holt Pound?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it is agreed before booking.

How the survey works
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take an hour or two on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Older roofs in small places like Holt Pound can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

DIY checks: what’s safe
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Practical tips
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.
How the survey changes by roof type
Steep slate and tile slopes
On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.
