About our drone roof survey in Hydestile

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We don’t fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked mortar along the ridge and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.

In a small place like Hydestile, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Hydestile questions

Will you come out to Hydestile?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is drone flying allowed in Hydestile?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Will you check the loft?

If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Hydestile

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Leave it or get it looked at?

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Hydestile, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Tips from our surveys

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

When to book a survey in Hydestile

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose

With Loseley Park about 4.1 miles north, the area around Hydestile has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Their report turnaround times
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Whether VAT is added on top

What to expect from a roof survey

What we do, step by step

We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. All in, the survey usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Hydestile, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Advice

Honest limits

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • A structural engineer’s report

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we look at

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs

What a drone roof survey looks like in Hydestile

Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Anyone responsible for a site like St Dominic's School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. If you live in an older home near Hambledon Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
