Honest limits
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hambledon
We carry out drone roof surveys in Hambledon and across London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on any day of the week. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We are often asked to look into tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and plant growth and moss on the roof, on flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks.
Somewhere as small as Hambledon, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

What we look for on each type of roof
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.
Ridges and hips
Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.
Hambledon: your questions answered
Is drone flying allowed in Hambledon?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hambledon?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
Will you check the loft?
Usually, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
What affects the price in Hambledon
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- How big the roof is
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we will tell you which fits.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- Anything about access we should know
- What made you get in touch
You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, call 07833 053749 or email us.
What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a small place like Hambledon, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Check the loft hatch can be reached

Advice
Drones, thermal imaging and Hambledon roofs
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
For an older house near a landmark such as Hambledon Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. If you look after a building such as St Dominic's School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Tips from our surveys
Small things make a difference. Our tips:
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Shut pets inside while we fly
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.
Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
Can I check my roof myself?
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
