Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Lidsing

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you’ve noticed eroded pointing on a chimney stack and lifted or split lead flashings, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

In a small place like Lidsing, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Lidsing

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof

If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • Whether the price includes VAT

What’s in a roof survey

For landlords and managing agents

If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.

FAQs for Lidsing

Is drone flying allowed in Lidsing?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Rochester Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Lidsing?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

What happens after the survey?

You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up.

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.

How the survey works

It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take between one and two hours at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Somewhere as small as Lidsing, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Arrange a survey

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To get started, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Before and after the survey

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Make sure insulation does not block the airflow.

Lidsing lies within about 5 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong.
