Marcham Drone Roof Survey
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you decide what to do next. We carry out drone roof surveys in Marcham.
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. We will say if a specialist is needed.
Valleys and parapet gutters
When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.
About our drone roof survey in Marcham
From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see inside. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. Common reasons to book are debris building up in hidden gutters and vegetation in valleys and gutters, across tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.
Even in a smaller place like Marcham, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Questions from Marcham
Is drone flying allowed in Marcham?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you cover smaller places like Marcham?
Yes, Marcham is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when you book.
What happens next?
You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
What a drone roof survey does not cover
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
Roofs we survey in Marcham
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
What happens if roof problems are left?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect. Around Marcham, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls, especially where trees overhang. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
The survey, step by step
We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take between one and two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Marcham, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Flying and imaging in Marcham
About 3 miles north lies Appleton Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Marcham has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
The streets around a church such as Church of All Saints are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Abingdon Preparatory School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Can I check my roof myself?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
