Drone roof surveys in Tubney

About our drone roof survey in Tubney

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are standing water on a flat roof and hidden gutters full of leaves.

Some older homes in villages like Tubney are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Checking the roof from ground level

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

When to book a survey in Tubney

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Abingdon Preparatory School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Their report turnaround times
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • What experience they bring

What a roof survey includes

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The roof’s overall size

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them

Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to phone 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.

How the survey works

You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a hamlet or village like Tubney, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before we arrive

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent

Drone roof surveys around Tubney

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Lawrence, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. With Appleton Manor about 1.6 miles north, the area around Tubney has a long history. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Tubney questions

How do I find out if my home in Tubney is listed?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Will you come out to Tubney?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Are you insured?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

What if it’s windy or raining on the day?

The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. Strong wind and heavy rain both rule out flying. If the weather turns, we’ll discuss another date.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
