About our drone roof survey in Milton

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We are often asked to look into loose ridge and hip tiles and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, across flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.

Villages like Milton often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

It is not only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.

What this survey cannot tell you

Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs

Before and after the survey

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Every so frequently, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

Airspace, weather and Milton roofs

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The wider area around Milton has a long history of building, with Clifton Hampden Manor about 4.3 miles north-east. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

Take a building like Sutton Courtenay Church of England Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Blaise, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Milton questions

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Milton?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How do I find out if my home in Milton is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

How do I book a survey in Milton?

Simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Light rain is normally fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In strong wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Milton?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, and it is agreed before booking.

How it works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Cottages and farmhouses around Milton often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

How to prepare

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Anything about access we should know
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

Once you know what you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We’ll suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.

Leave it or get it looked at?

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Older and listed buildings around Milton may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.
