Drone roof survey in Mousehill
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are debris building up in hidden gutters and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.
Older buildings in small places like Mousehill may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

When to book a survey in Mousehill
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
If you look after a building like Milford School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
Before booking any roof surveyor

- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Are they insured for the work?

Questions from Mousehill
Do you cover smaller places like Mousehill?
Yes, Mousehill is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
How do I find out if my home in Mousehill is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Does your drone take thermal images?
Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. A word with next door beforehand is a good idea.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but it can’t see under the coverings. We look in the loft from inside where it is safe.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, confirmed before anything is booked.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
Why act early in Mousehill
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. In a place like Mousehill, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before you book.
Why us?
- An independent look at the roof
- 5,000+ roofs surveyed
- Surveys seven days a week
- More than 20 years surveying roofs
How the survey works
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Older rural homes like those around Mousehill can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent

Advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically, so nothing is skipped.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
Useful tips for Mousehill property owners
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.
Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Flying and imaging in Mousehill
Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
With Loseley Park about 3.8 miles north-east, the area around Mousehill has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you live in an older home near St John the Evangelist's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
