Flying and imaging in Cramhurst

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Take an older house close to St John the Evangelist's Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Cramhurst is about 7 miles south-west of Guildford, in Surrey. Bookings from Cramhurst are handled just like any other: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Cramhurst is one of the places in Surrey where we work for drone roof surveys. There is also a page for Guildford.

Surveys in GU8 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Merryacres, Martins Wood and Cramhurst Lane or a nearby road, we can survey it. Drone roof survey in Cramhurst

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and outlets choked with leaves and silt.

In a small place like Cramhurst, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Practical tips

There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:

  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

What affects the price in Cramhurst

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Getting in touch

There is no need for technical words. Just let us know:

  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The address and postcode of the property

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

Common questions in Cramhurst

Is my home in Cramhurst listed or in a conservation area?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Is Cramhurst within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when you book.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

How many surveys have you done?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

That depends on where the roof is. Flying inside a flight restriction zone needs permission from the airport or air traffic control, which can add time. Book early if you think you may be affected.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but not the loft or the underside. We look in the loft from inside where it’s safe.

How it works

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. As for time on site, it usually takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere like Cramhurst needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Book a survey

Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or email us and give us some details about the property and we will recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Common roof problems in Cramhurst

Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

People usually book a survey after spotting something like this:

  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof

With Loseley Park about 4.4 miles north-east, the area around Cramhurst has a long history. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
