Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area.
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Netteswell
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are outlets choked with leaves and silt and moss and weeds taking hold up top.
In smaller places like Netteswell, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from ground level.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Why it is worth a survey now in Netteswell
Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. With lower homes, common in places like Netteswell, there’s little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.

Common questions in Netteswell
Do you cover smaller places like Netteswell?
Yes, Netteswell is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Netteswell?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
Will you check the loft?
If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
How many surveys have you done?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
What does a roof survey cost?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.
What we are asked to look at in Netteswell
The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
Things that frequently lead to a survey include:
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
For an older house near a landmark like St Andrew's Methodist Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Questions to ask before booking
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- How soon the report will arrive
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- Is VAT included in the price?
What we do, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It normally takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Homes around Netteswell often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers

Checking the roof from the ground
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Netteswell
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, and plenty of post-war and modern estates besides. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
Anyone responsible for a site like Freshwaters Primary Academy will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
