Drone roof surveys in Latton

Do you need a drone roof survey in Latton?

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak.

People normally book a survey after spotting one of these:

  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Church Langley Community Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Will the report include photos?
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA

What’s in a roof survey

Drone roof survey in Latton

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and standing water on a flat roof.

In a village or hamlet like Latton, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Latton: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Latton?

Yes, Latton is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Are there drone restrictions around Latton?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.

What happens next?

You will receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both inc. VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • What made you get in touch
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Drone roof surveys in Latton: local notes

Latton is part of Harlow, one of the post-war new towns. Many homes in the new towns date from the post-war decades, with concrete interlocking tiles, low-pitched roofs and flat-roofed garages and porches. Low-pitched roofs can be hard to see from the street, which is where a drone or thermal camera helps. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Take an older house close to Church of St Andrew: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Latton is about 1 mile south-east of Harlow, in Essex. We provide drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Latton and nearby. Our Essex coverage includes Latton. Chelmsford is in our area too.

Every address in CM17, CM18 and CM20 is within our area for drone roof surveys. How the survey works

Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Somewhere like Latton needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming

Advice

What we can’t see

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs

Checking the roof from the ground

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. It is almost impossible to see from the ground, but a drone shows it clearly.

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.
