About our drone roof survey in Norney

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are debris building up in hidden gutters and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack.

In a small place like Norney, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Questions from Norney

Is Norney within the area you cover?

Yes. Norney is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Are there drone restrictions around Norney?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

What will the report tell me?

Written findings with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The report follows by email.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.

What’s the best way to book?

Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Norney

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

Historic houses such as Loseley Park, about 2.5 miles north-east, show how far back building around Norney goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Mary, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings like St Mary's CofE Voluntary Controlled Infant School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Norney is about 5 miles south-west of Guildford, in Surrey. In Norney, as across Surrey, every roof gets the same careful survey. We cover towns and villages across Surrey, from the larger towns to small villages.

Surveys in GU8 are booked the same way as anywhere else. Streets in the area include Shackleford Road and Elstead Road, all of which we cover. If you’re just outside Norney, we cover Lower Eashing (1 mile south), Peper Harow (1 mile south-west), Upper Eashing (1 mile south-east), Aaron's Hill (1 mile south-east) and Milford (2 miles south). We also work in nearby towns such as Guildford (5 miles north-east), Woking (9 miles north-east), Camberley (10 miles north), Farnham (6 miles west), Dorking (14 miles east) and Frimley (9 miles north).

How it works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Cottages and farmhouses around Norney often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Advice

For landlords and managing agents

Landlords and letting agents in Norney book surveys as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, useful for planning maintenance.

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.

DIY checks: what’s safe

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

How we price drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You will know the figure before booking.

Getting in touch

A little information up front helps. It helps to include:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Dates you are working to, like exchange
  • The address and postcode of the property

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

What this survey can’t tell you

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Tips that help

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Tell us the exact address when you book
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later, and they help if you sell.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
