Need a drone roof survey in Nutfield?

How it works

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Nutfield frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Advice

About our drone roof survey in Nutfield

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack.

Older buildings in small places like Nutfield may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates frequently point to corroded nails. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

Tips from our surveys

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Nutfield: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Nutfield?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Are there drone restrictions around Nutfield?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Nutfield is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Redhill Aerodrome. Before any flight there, we ask the aerodrome for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only if it is safe. We check everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.

How fast do I get the report?

Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, let us know when booking.

Does the weather affect the survey?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Nutfield

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

Airspace, weather and Nutfield roofs

Nutfield is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Redhill Aerodrome. Before any flight there, we ask the aerodrome for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter and St Paul, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you run a business near The Belfry, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Nutfield Church CofE Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
