Drone roof surveys in Pebmarsh

About our drone roof survey in Pebmarsh

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We are often asked to look into hidden gutters full of leaves and ponding and splits on a high flat roof, across flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

Somewhere as small as Pebmarsh, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Different roofs, different checks

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

Checking the roof from the ground

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

The survey, step by step

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. All told, expect between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Pebmarsh often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Advice

Airspace, weather and Pebmarsh roofs

Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, and plenty of post-war and modern estates besides. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. The wider area around Pebmarsh has a long history of building, with Hedingham Castle about 4.4 miles west. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Take an older house close to Parish Church of St John the Baptist: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What this survey cannot tell you

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Flights in high wind or heavy rain

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks

What a survey costs

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:

  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Booking your survey

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage

Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us a few details about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

Pebmarsh: your questions answered

Is my home in Pebmarsh listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Is drone flying allowed in Pebmarsh?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

How long does the survey take?

Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

How do I book a survey in Pebmarsh?

It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. We survey seven days a week.

What happens next?

The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.
