Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Peters Village

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. Common reasons to book are lead work pulling away at abutments and plant growth and moss on the roof, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.

In smaller places like Peters Village, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you can’t see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from ground level.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Flying and imaging in Peters Village

Peters Village is about 2 miles from Rochester Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Starkey Castle lies about 1.5 miles north, so building around Peters Village goes back a long way. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. The streets around a church like St Mary's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Halling Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Peters Village is about 3 miles west of Chatham, in Medway. Peters Village gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful look at whatever is safely visible, photographs and a clear written report. Our Medway coverage includes Peters Village. Maidstone is in our area too.

Every address in ME1 is within our area for drone roof surveys. Whether your property is on Greystone Square, Burners Walk and Tusk Walk or a nearby road, we can help. Before and after the survey

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:

  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

Common questions in Peters Village

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Peters Village?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Peters Village is about 2 miles from Rochester Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Is my home in Peters Village listed or in a conservation area?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable.

Do you work in Peters Village?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, Peters Village included.

What happens next?

The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

How the survey changes by roof type

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. It’s almost impossible to see from ground level, but a drone shows it clearly.

Can I check my roof myself?

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

What happens on the day

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Parking around Peters Village is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from the ground, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Advice

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed beforehand. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which can make access easier.
