Need a drone roof survey in Pittswood?

How it works

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Pittswood, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

About our drone roof survey in Pittswood

We carry out drone roof surveys in Pittswood and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. Common reasons to book are standing water on a flat roof and flashings that have come away, across chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs.

Some older homes in villages like Pittswood are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Questions from Pittswood

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Pittswood?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Is Pittswood within the area you cover?

Yes. Pittswood is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.

Why get it checked now?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. In a small place like Pittswood, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

DIY checks: what’s safe

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Flying and imaging in Pittswood

Historic houses like Old Soar Manor, about 2.6 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Pittswood goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What we’re asked to look at in Pittswood

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.

Here are some of the things we see frequently:

  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hadlow Rural Community School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What to expect from a roof survey

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is typically out of view. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
