Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Dunk's Green
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. Typical surveys look at storm damage on steep or tall roofs and chimney tops in poor condition, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors.
Villages like Dunk's Green frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Why get it checked now?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. In a small place like Dunk's Green, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Tips from our surveys
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
What we do, step by step
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a hamlet or village like Dunk's Green, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at

Drones, thermal imaging and Dunk's Green roofs
Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
Historic houses such as Old Soar Manor, about 0.9 miles north-east, show how far back building around Dunk's Green goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself. Anyone responsible for a site like Plaxtol Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you live in an older home near Plaxtol Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Dunk's Green questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Dunk's Green?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
How do I find out if my home in Dunk's Green is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
How experienced are you?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when booking.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Dunk's Green?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
How we price drone roof surveys
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Roof area
- Height and safe access
All our prices include VAT. Prices start from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before booking.
What to let us know when you contact us
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- Anything about access we should know
- What kind of property and roof it is
- The address and postcode of the property
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and the days you’d prefer.
For landlords and managing agents
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

Valleys and parapet gutters
Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.
