About our drone roof survey in Plaistow

Drone roof surveys are available in Plaistow and throughout London and the South East, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. Common reasons to book are cracked mortar along the ridge and hidden gutters full of leaves, on valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Plaistow as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

How it works

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a visit in Plaistow, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. On the day, the roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Flying and imaging in Plaistow

Plaistow is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London City Airport. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it is given. Welsh slate on Victorian and Edwardian terraces is a familiar sight across inner London. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Shop and office owners around Stratford Centre may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Hotels and guest houses near Plaistow cannot easily close rooms for a leak, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Plaistow is in London, so parking needs planning: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway as you book, as a space near the door can’t be promised.

Why act early in Plaistow

It’s hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

What you get with us

  • Package prices that include VAT
  • Surveys seven days a week
  • We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Thermal imaging and drone inspection where they help

Checking the roof from the ground

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That is where a survey comes in.

FAQs for Plaistow

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Plaistow?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is drone flying allowed in Plaistow?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around London City Airport covers Plaistow, or comes right up to its edge. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us as you book.

Do you work in Plaistow?

Yes. Plaistow is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.

Will you check the loft?

If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We check the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

Tips that help

There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Make sure insulation does not block the airflow.

What this survey can’t tell you

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks

What affects the price in Plaistow

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.

Helping us price your survey

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors

A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or email us. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.
