Drone roof survey in Redford

Drones need reasonable weather. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’re worried about slipped or missing slates on a high roof and ridge pieces that have lifted, we can find out what’s behind it.

Older buildings in small places like Redford may be listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

The survey, step by step

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit usually takes an hour or two for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Around Redford, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Arrange a survey

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

What this survey cannot tell you

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.

What affects the price in Redford

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:

  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Height and safe access
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • The size of the roof

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

Getting in touch

We will typically ask about:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • What’s prompted the survey

To book a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price before you book.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Redford

With Cowdray House about 3.4 miles south-east, Redford sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Take an older house close to Church of St Luke: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Questions from Redford

Is my home in Redford listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is drone flying allowed in Redford?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.

What’s the best way to book?

Simply ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.

How many surveys have you done?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Will I get photos?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
