What affects the price in Rownhams
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Roof area
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What we need to know
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Drone roof survey in Rownhams
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where slates or tiles have gone and eroded pointing on a chimney stack.
Even in a smaller place like Rownhams, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Why act early in Rownhams
Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photos of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Homes in smaller places like Rownhams can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Wind gets under it and lifts more, and water follows.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.
What you get with us
- Drone and thermal imaging surveys available
- Weekday and weekend surveys
- Over 5,000 surveys carried out
- Clear package prices, with VAT included
How it works
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Rownhams, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. Inside, the loft is checked where it can be reached safely.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
Getting a price
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Useful tips for Rownhams property owners
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Let us know what you want to see
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
Can I check my roof myself?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Rownhams
Is drone flying allowed in Rownhams?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Rownhams is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is my home in Rownhams listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions are not right, we will talk to you about another date.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
How soon will I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed in advance. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which can make access easier.
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.
