- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Close-up photos of next door’s property

About our drone roof survey in Midanbury
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We do not fly in strong wind or a downpour, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we will agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs, and people most often book us about tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water.
Around Midanbury, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later.

FAQs for Midanbury
Will you come out to Midanbury?
Yes, Midanbury is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Are there drone restrictions around Midanbury?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Midanbury is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Are you insured?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we’ll talk to you about another date.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
What happens next?
You will get the report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Let us know what you want to see
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

Drone roof surveys in Midanbury: local notes
Midanbury lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Midanbury is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it is given.
Historic houses such as South Stoneham House, about 0.9 miles north-west, show how far back building around Midanbury goes. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Shop and office owners around Marlands Shopping Centre may find that large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see by drone or thermal camera. Take an older house close to Church of Ascension: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What you can safely check yourself
It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
How the survey works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Midanbury is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
