Drone roof survey in Mansbridge: what you get
From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack.
Around Mansbridge, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.
We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

Tips from our surveys
Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
What we can’t see
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. It’s almost impossible to see from the ground, but it is plain to see from the air.
Drone roof surveys around Mansbridge
Mansbridge is within about 4 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Mansbridge is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it is given.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Mansbridge Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Take an older house close to St. Mary's Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

What happens on the day
You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Being in a smaller place like Mansbridge doesn’t change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Mansbridge
Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
With South Stoneham House about 0.5 miles west, the area around Mansbridge has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Your questions about drone roof surveys in Mansbridge
Is drone flying allowed in Mansbridge?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Mansbridge is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it’s given. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Mansbridge?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
How do I book a survey in Mansbridge?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
When does the report arrive?
That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
