Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. Common reasons to book are gaps where slates or tiles have gone and worn lead at chimneys and walls, on valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks.

Somewhere as small as Rushden, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • How big the roof is
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Helping us price your survey

You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof

Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or email us. We’ll suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.

What happens if roof problems are left?

It’s hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. Our report shows the condition of each area. That helps you put the work in order. For an older or listed building in a place like Rushden, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

How the survey works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Somewhere as small as Rushden, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets in another room
  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Rushden questions

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Rushden?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is drone flying allowed in Rushden?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before you book. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or email us.

How long will you be at the property?

Expect it to take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You will then get the report by email.

Airspace, weather and Rushden roofs

Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

Whatever the street in Rushden, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
