What happens on the day
Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Southchurch is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Keep pets in another room
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Southchurch
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey fragile roofs, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are storm damage on steep or tall roofs and hidden gutters full of leaves.
Around Southchurch, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

What we’re asked to look at in Southchurch
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Flashings that have come away
A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Southchurch means lost rooms as well as repairs.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Their track record with similar roofs
- When you will get the report
- What insurance they carry
What a drone roof survey does not cover
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Common questions in Southchurch
Is my home in Southchurch listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you cover smaller places like Southchurch?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Southchurch?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.
What happens after the survey?
The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

From ground level, you’re guessing about most of a tall roof. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Southchurch, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.

Tips that help
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
