Drone roof survey in Stick Hill

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about flashings that have come away and gaps where slates or tiles have gone.

Somewhere as small as Stick Hill, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What this survey can’t tell you

Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

What we look at

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

How it works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and make notes for the report. It typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Cottages and farmhouses around Stick Hill frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Advice

When to book a survey in Stick Hill

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs

The streets around a church such as Church of the Holy Trinity are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

What a good roof survey covers

Airspace, weather and Stick Hill roofs

Historic houses such as Hever Castle, about 1.5 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Stick Hill goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

What you can safely check yourself

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Stick Hill questions

Will you come out to Stick Hill?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Stick Hill?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How long is the visit?

Expect it to take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when you book.

Tips from our surveys

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Roof area
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The shape of the roof and its details

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Getting in touch

Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • When you need the report by

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.
