Drone roof survey in Strood Green: what you get

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. We’re often asked to look into slates or tiles shifted by high winds and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, across valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and chimney stacks.

Somewhere as small as Strood Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

Drone roof surveys in Strood Green: local notes

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. About 4.6 miles north-west lies Polesden Lacey, a reminder of how long the area around Strood Green has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you live in an older home near Christ Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as North Downs Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Strood Green: your questions answered

Is my home in Strood Green listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Is drone flying allowed in Strood Green?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

Is Strood Green in your area?

Yes. We carry out drone roof surveys in Strood Green.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we will agree the details as you book.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

How long does the survey take?

It typically takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.

What this survey cannot tell you

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we look at

  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

How we price drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Roof area
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before you book.

Booking your survey

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Any deadline, like an exchange date

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

The survey, step by step

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes about one to two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older roofs in small places like Strood Green can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Tips from our surveys

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Tell us the exact address when you book
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

What we look for on each type of roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
