Drone roof surveys near Leigh

Before and after the survey

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Book early if you are near an airport
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

Drone roof survey in Leigh: what you get

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. Common reasons to book are worn lead at chimneys and walls and hidden gutters full of leaves, across flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.

Some older homes in villages like Leigh are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Drone roof surveys around Leigh

The flight restriction zone around Redhill Aerodrome comes within about 2 miles of Leigh. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Anyone responsible for a site like Burys Court School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Bartholomew, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Leigh questions

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Leigh?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around Redhill Aerodrome comes within about 2 miles of Leigh. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

How do I find out if my home in Leigh is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Is Leigh in your area?

Yes. We cover Leigh and the rest of Surrey, as part of our work across London and South East England. To book, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report follows by email.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

The survey, step by step

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. In a small place like Leigh, access is typically the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before the survey

What a drone roof survey does not cover

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roofs on tall buildings are often seen by nobody. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.
