How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.

About our drone roof survey in Strood

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. If you’ve noticed eroded pointing on a chimney stack and moss and weeds taking hold up top, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In a village or hamlet like Strood, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Strood: your questions answered

Are there drone restrictions around Strood?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Will you come out to Strood?

Yes. Strood is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

When does the report arrive?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

What do I do with the report?

You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Light rain is normally fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In strong wind or heavy rain, a drone cannot fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Strood

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. A photo-illustrated written report gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends, which helps when tenants work during the week.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

How the survey works

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Rural addresses near Strood can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Advice

Leave it or get it looked at?

Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Older and listed buildings around Strood may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Do you need a drone roof survey in Strood?

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

Take a building like Rolvenden Primary School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • Their report turnaround times
