Drone roof survey in Tenterden
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. If you’ve noticed worn lead at chimneys and walls and wind damage high on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, on chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors alike.
In smaller places like Tenterden, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Tenterden
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. Around Tenterden, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

The survey, step by step
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. All told, expect an hour or two for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Parking around Tenterden is typically easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where applicable.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Checking the roof from ground level
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
What affects the price in Tenterden
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- The roof’s overall size
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.
Booking your survey
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price before you book.
Tenterden questions
Are there drone restrictions around Tenterden?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you cover smaller places like Tenterden?
Yes, Tenterden is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
What do I do with the report?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we will take it from there. We survey seven days a week.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Drones, thermal imaging and Tenterden roofs
With Smallhythe Place about 2.2 miles south, Tenterden sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Older houses across Kent often have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Take an older house close to Parish Church of St Mildred: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Tenterden means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it pays to find faults before guests do. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Tenterden Infant School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Practical tips
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, particularly in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
