Common questions in Stroud Green
Will you come out to Stroud Green?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is drone flying allowed in Stroud Green?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Stroud Green is about 2 miles from London Southend Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Drone roof survey in Stroud Green
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We will tell you if another approach would work better. Typical surveys look at outlets choked with leaves and silt and lead work pulling away at abutments, across valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
Villages like Stroud Green often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

The survey, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near Stroud Green can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Note where any stains or damp appear

What you can safely check yourself
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Tips from our surveys
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Tell us the exact address when you book
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
Honest limits
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we look at
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
Why get it checked now?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. For an older or listed building in a place like Stroud Green, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Drone roof surveys around Stroud Green
Stroud Green lies within about 4 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. London Southend Airport is about 2 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight.
The streets around a church like Church of St Mary the Virgin are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Southchurch Hall, about 3.8 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Stroud Green. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Anyone responsible for a site like St Teresa's Catholic Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
