Drone roof survey in The Stocks, Kent
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you spend money on it. We carry out drone roof surveys in The Stocks, with photographs and a clear written report.
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Flashings that have come away
Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
Drone roof survey in The Stocks
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there is safe access, we look in the roof space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about gaps where slates or tiles have gone and loose ridge and hip tiles.
In a village or hamlet like The Stocks, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to.

Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Make sure the loft can be reached
There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
When you need someone else
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. A photo-illustrated written report gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Drone roof surveys around The Stocks
Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. With Smallhythe Place about 2 miles north-west, The Stocks sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Take a building like Wittersham Church of England Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

The Stocks questions
Do you cover smaller places like The Stocks?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
How do I find out if my home in The Stocks is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is your drone operator registered?
Yes, we are. Our Flyer ID and Operator ID come from the CAA, and the drone itself is under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.
How soon will I get the report?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. A drone shows the outside surfaces of the roof in close detail, but it can’t see under the coverings. Where there is safe access, we check the loft space from inside.
Do drone rules differ in central London?
Central London has restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable.
How it works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes an hour or two for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older rural homes like those around The Stocks can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Do you need a drone roof survey in The Stocks?
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and some sheet roofs are fragile. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
The streets around a church such as Parish Church of St John the Baptist are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
What to check before booking
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- What happens after the report arrives
- What insurance they carry
