Drone roof survey in Wittersham: what you get
Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.
Some older homes in villages like Wittersham are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate normally means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Wittersham
Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. Our report shows the condition of each area, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Older cottages and farmhouses around Wittersham can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

What we do, step by step
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a hamlet or village like Wittersham, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Let us know about parking near the property
Getting a price
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form, and we will ask about the building and what you need. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Before and after the survey
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Let us know what you want to see
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
Prices for drone roof surveys in Wittersham
Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The size of the roof
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
Helping us price your survey
Some details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- The address and postcode of the property
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.
Drones, thermal imaging and Wittersham roofs
Across Kent, older roofs are frequently handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wittersham Church of England Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Smallhythe Place lies about 1.6 miles north, so building around Wittersham goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. The streets around a church such as Parish Church of St John the Baptist are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Wittersham
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Wittersham?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you come out to Wittersham?
Yes. Wittersham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Are you registered with the CAA?
Yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and keep it in sight at all times.
Can the drone do thermal imaging?
The drone gives you detailed photos of the outside of the roof. If you need thermal imaging, it’s part of the Premium Survey.
What insurance do you have?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
