FAQs for Tower Hill
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Tower Hill?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you cover smaller places like Tower Hill?
Yes. Tower Hill is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
What if it rains on the day?
A survey can usually go ahead in light rain. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions are not right we will arrange another day with you.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.
What’s the best way to book?

Drone roof survey in Tower Hill
Drone roof surveys are available in Tower Hill and throughout London and the South East, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We’re frequently asked to look into damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, across flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs.
In a village or hamlet like Tower Hill, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, it normally takes between one and two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older rural homes like those around Tower Hill can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before the survey
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Let us know about parking near the property

Flying and imaging in Tower Hill
With Chenies Manor House about 2.8 miles south-west, Tower Hill sits in an area with a long building history. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Take a building like Kings Langley School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
Tower Hill is about 3 miles south-west of Hemel Hempstead, in Hertfordshire. In Tower Hill, as across Hertfordshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. Tower Hill is one of the places in Hertfordshire where we work. There’s also a page for London.

Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.
What we can’t see
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

For landlords and managing agents
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.
What we are asked to look at in Tower Hill
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Paul, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.
Questions to ask before booking
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
- What the survey will not cover
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
Practical tips
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Tell us the exact address when you book
- Let us know what you want to see
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photographs and findings. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.
