Airspace, weather and Upper Froyle roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary of the Assumption, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Eggar's School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Upper Froyle is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire where we work for drone roof surveys. Guildford is in our area too.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Upper Froyle

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We will tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you’ve noticed lead work pulling away at abutments and ridge and hip pieces working loose, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

In a small place like Upper Froyle, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

What we can’t see

Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs

What happens on the day

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Upper Froyle, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Note where any stains or damp appear

Different roofs, different checks

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. We record the signs of age we can see.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

We confirm the exact price before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both with VAT included. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

What we need to know

Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • What made you get in touch
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or email us, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Upper Froyle questions

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Upper Froyle?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How do I find out if my home in Upper Froyle is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

What does the report include?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.

When does the report arrive?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

For landlords and managing agents

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
