Upstreet Drone Roof Survey

Not sure what state the roof is in? You can book a drone roof survey in Upstreet and across Kent, with plain-English findings.

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters

Need a drone roof survey in Upstreet?

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Book early if you are near an airport

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that is not clear.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

How a drone roof survey works in Upstreet

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. Typical surveys look at vegetation in valleys and gutters and wind damage high on the roof, across valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs.

In a village or hamlet like Upstreet, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Upstreet

Is my home in Upstreet listed or in a conservation area?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Upstreet?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

What’s the best way to book?

Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can usually go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Strong wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions are not right we will arrange another day with you.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

How long will you be at the property?

Expect it to take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

What will the report tell me?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos. Points are put by urgency where it matters.

Drone roof surveys around Upstreet

Upstreet is within about 4 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary the Virgin, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you look after a building such as Chislet Church of England Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Upstreet is about 4 miles south-east of Herne Bay, in Kent. Upstreet is part of the area we cover and the surrounding area as part of our work across London and South East England. Our area takes in places right across Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. For surveys nearby, see our Canterbury page.

Here we cover the CT3 postcode area for drone roof surveys. Streets in the area include St Mary's Gardens, Becketts Wood and Grove Ferry Hill, and we cover them all. We also cover the places around Upstreet: Grove (1 mile south), West Stourmouth (2 miles east), Sarre (2 miles north-east), Preston (2 miles south-east) and East Stourmouth (2 miles east). Further out, we also cover Canterbury (6 miles south-west), Margate (9 miles north-east), Dover (14 miles south), Ramsgate (9 miles east), Broadstairs (10 miles east) and Whitstable (8 miles west).

Near you in Upstreet

Typical jobs here are in homes near Grove Ferry Picnic Area, Spires Academy and The Grove Ferry Inn and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Sturry station, roughly 3.8 miles south-west. Nearby you’ll also find St Martins Hospital (5.2 miles south-west). Open spaces near Upstreet include West Blean and Thornden Woods.

What this survey cannot tell you

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

How we price drone roof surveys

All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • How big the roof is
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • What kind of property and roof it is

Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.

The survey, step by step

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey normally takes between one and two hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Upstreet often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

What you can safely check yourself

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

For landlords and managing agents

Landlords, agents and building managers in Upstreet and across Kent can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant.
