About our drone roof survey in Sarre
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you’ve noticed ponding and splits on a high flat roof and outlets choked with leaves and silt, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on fragile roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters alike.
Some older homes in villages like Sarre are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Sarre
Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.
Checking the roof from ground level
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Questions from Sarre
Is drone flying allowed in Sarre?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Do you cover smaller places like Sarre?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.
What if it rains on the day?
It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Useful tips for Sarre property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Let us know what you want to see
We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Every so frequently, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
When you need someone else
Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
Roof types and parts we check
- Chimney stacks
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors
How the survey works
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. For a village or hamlet like Sarre, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Drone roof surveys in Sarre: local notes
Sarre is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
With Quex Park about 4.1 miles north-east, the area around Sarre has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. The streets around a church such as Church of Saint Nicholas are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Take a building like St Nicholas At Wade Church of England Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Roof by roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Felt frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.
Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.
