Drone roof survey in West Green, West Sussex
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in West Green. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
What we look for on each type of roof
Large commercial roofs
Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. A drone keeps everyone off them.
Valleys and parapet gutters
When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
How a drone roof survey works in West Green
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are wind damage high on the roof and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.
Around West Green, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

Landlord and commercial surveys in West Green
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Drone roof surveys around West Green
West Green is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Gatwick Airport. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. West Green is part of Crawley, one of the post-war new towns. Many homes in the new towns date from the post-war decades, with concrete interlocking tiles, low-pitched roofs and flat-roofed garages and porches. Low pitches and flat-roofed additions are hard to see from ground level, so aerial and thermal views add detail.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near County Mall, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If you live in an older home near Voice of Deliverance Full Gospel Church of God, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Anyone responsible for a site like West Green Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Common questions in West Green
How do I find out if my home in West Green is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Do you cover smaller places like West Green?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
What do I do with the report?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
How soon will I get the report?
That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only if it is safe. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.
When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

What you can safely check yourself
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Tips that help
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Shut pets inside while we fly
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
How it works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Parking around West Green is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where applicable.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Before the survey
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
