Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Weston

Drones need reasonable weather. We do not fly in strong wind or a downpour, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. We survey fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked mortar along the ridge and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.

Villages like Weston often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Drone roof surveys around Weston

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Trinity, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you look after a building such as Weston Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

What we cannot see

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

Questions from Weston

Will you come out to Weston?

Yes. Weston is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Weston?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.

Tips that help

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is usually out of view. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

How the survey works

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Weston, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Why it is worth a survey now in Weston

From the ground, you are guessing about most of a tall roof. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. It’s far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. For an older or listed building in a place like Weston, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
