Drone roof survey in Wigmore: what you get
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs, and people most often book us about plant growth and moss on the roof and ponding and splits on a high flat roof.
Around Wigmore, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.
It is not only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

What happens on the day
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report. On timing, most surveys take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Wigmore is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Wigmore
Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.
A survey can pick up problems like:
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
Shop and office owners around Pentagon Shopping Centre may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which limits apply to the survey
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Whether VAT is added on top
- What happens after the report arrives
Your questions about drone roof surveys in Wigmore
Will you come out to Wigmore?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Is my home in Wigmore listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. A drone shows the outside surfaces of the roof in close detail, but it can’t see under the coverings. We look in the loft from inside where it is safe.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only if it’s safe. We check everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.
Checking the roof from ground level
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Why act early in Wigmore
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right. Arranging work in a smaller place like Wigmore is easier with notice than in an emergency. A survey gives you that notice.
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Drones, thermal imaging and Wigmore roofs
Wigmore is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Take an older house close to St Paul's Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Restoration House, about 4.4 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wigmore. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
