Drone roof survey in Woolwich, Greater London
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Woolwich. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Flashings that have come away
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
Tips from our surveys
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Let us know what you want to see
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
How a drone roof survey works in Woolwich
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are chimney tops in poor condition and moss and weeds taking hold up top.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every address in Woolwich is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Woolwich questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Woolwich?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Woolwich is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London City Airport. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Woolwich?
Usually it’s manageable with a little notice. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Woolwich?
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know the address and what you’d like to know. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Do you cover Woolwich?
Yes. We survey roofs in Woolwich and the rest of Greater London. To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
How long is the visit?
Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about 1–2 hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Do you need a drone roof survey in Woolwich?
From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Faults there can go unnoticed for years, which is why owners turn to a drone.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Flashings that have come away
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
Queen's House lies about 2.9 miles west, so building around Woolwich goes back a long way. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Airspace, weather and Woolwich roofs
Woolwich is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London City Airport. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. Outer London has lots of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Woolwich, along with any off-street space. For businesses in and around places such as Gallions Reach Shopping Park, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

For landlords and managing agents
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.
DIY checks: what’s safe
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Woolwich
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we will tell you which fits.

The survey, step by step
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. From the street, a London terrace usually shows only its front slope or parapet, so in Woolwich we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Let us know who holds the keys.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Leave side gates unlocked
