Electronic leak detection in Harestock, Hampshire
Electronic leak detection for homes and businesses in Harestock. We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Leaks under green or ballasted roofs
- A flat roof leak that cannot be traced
- Damp inside with no sign on the roof
What electronic leak detection doesn’t cover
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Some conductive membranes
- The extent of water in the insulation
- Repairing the breaches (that is for your roofer)
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

How electronic leak detection works in Harestock
ELD is a way of pinpointing breaches in a flat roof’s waterproofing membrane. It uses a small electrical current that passes through the membrane only where there is a breach. That lets us locate holes that are too small to see so your roofer knows exactly where to repair. You get a report with photographs of each breach found. We survey flat roof membranes, roof terraces and balconies and green roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are failed seams and laps and breaches hidden under paving or planting.
Outbuildings, garden rooms and garages in places like Harestock frequently have flat roofs of their own. They’re rarely looked at until something gets wet. If you want them looked at too, mention them as you book. Felt, rubber and GRP coverings on garages and outbuildings age in just the same way as the main roof’s.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

Can I check my roof myself?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
FAQs for Harestock
How do I find out if my home in Harestock is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you come out to Harestock?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Is the repair part of the test?
No, the test finds the breaches and your roofer repairs them. The report gives your roofer the locations.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when you book.
Will you check the loft?
Where it’s relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.
When does the report arrive?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.
Prices for electronic leak detection in Harestock
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Getting in touch
The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or email us.
What we are asked to look at in Harestock
Other trades on the roof can puncture the waterproofing. Fixings, equipment and foot traffic can leave small holes.
Problems we come across often include:
- Holes left by work on the roof
- Repairs that haven’t stopped the leak
- Leaks through a flat roof with no obvious cause
- Damp inside with no sign on the roof
If you look after a building like Harestock Primary School, ponding and blocked outlets on a wide flat roof are worth catching before the next wet season.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Their report turnaround times
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
Roof by roof
Bituminous membranes
Older felt roofs frequently have seams and patches where breaches occur. Testing depends on the roof.
EPDM rubber roofs
Some EPDM membranes conduct electricity, which can rule out some methods. We will say if the test won’t work.
What happens on the day
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take more time on a big roof than a small one, and the build-up of the roof makes a difference too. For a survey in Harestock, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- You tell us about the roof and where water is showing.
- The roof is assessed for suitability first.
- The test method is chosen to suit the roof.
- We test the roof and locate any breaches.
- You get a report with photos of each breach.
How to prepare
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
Arrange a survey
If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.

Flat and commercial roofs around Harestock
If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Flat roofs fill the gaps in between, on extensions, garages, dormers and business premises.
If you let a flat or house near Winchester station, the flat roof over a let home is worth a look before it becomes a tenant complaint. For an older house near a landmark like Saint Barnabas, the joins between later flat roofs and the old walls are where problems typically start.
