What affects the price in Wildhern

Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

How electronic leak detection works in Wildhern

We carry out electronic leak detection on flat roofs in Wildhern and across London and the South East. A visit typically takes as long as needed for the roof’s area and construction, which we’ll explain when we quote. Every roof is quoted on its size and build-up. You get a photo-illustrated written report. If you’ve noticed punctures from foot traffic or tools and damp inside with no sign on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, on liquid-applied waterproofing, commercial flat roofs and roof terraces and balconies alike.

In a village or hamlet like Wildhern, flat roofs are usually on extensions, garages, outbuildings or barn conversions. The checks are the same as anywhere: the covering, the edges, the upstands and where water drains away. We simply plan the journey and access ahead of time. Garages and outbuildings are easy to forget, so mention any you want included when booking.

Where we cannot see part of the flat roof membrane, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

What we look for on each type of roof

EPDM rubber roofs

Whether an EPDM roof can be tested depends on the membrane and build-up. We check this first.

Single-ply membranes

Punctures from foot traffic and equipment are common on single-ply roofs. ELD can locate them.

Common questions in Wildhern

Do you cover Wildhern?

Yes, Wildhern is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Wildhern as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Is my home in Wildhern listed or in a conservation area?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can you test a green or ballasted roof?

In some cases. It depends on the build-up and the layers above the membrane, and some may need lifting. We will discuss it before we quote.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

How much does electronic leak detection cost?

We quote for each roof individually. Send us details of the roof, and call 07833 053749 or email us for a quote.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when you book.

How fast do I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.

Why it is worth a survey now in Wildhern

Chasing a leak again and again is frustrating. A clear record of where the breaches are helps break that cycle. In a place like Wildhern, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Every price we give includes VAT. Electronic leak detection is quoted for your roof, because the method depends on the roof. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

What we can’t see

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Water entering through details rather than the membrane
  • Roofs whose membrane or build-up isn’t suitable
  • The extent of water in the insulation

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Electronic leak detection around Wildhern

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Next to the main roofs there is usually a flat roof somewhere, whether on an extension, a garage or a commercial unit. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Christchurch, later flat-roofed additions are common on older houses, and their edges and upstands often show the first signs of wear. If you look after a building such as Hatherden Church of England Primary School, schools and public buildings often have big flat roofs, and their outlets and upstands need regular checks. For landlords with property near Andover station, a flat roof over a rented flat is easy to forget until the tenant reports a leak.

Wildhern is about 3 miles north of Andover, in Hampshire. Wildhern is one of many places we visit across Hampshire, for homes and businesses alike. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire. There’s also a page for Southampton.

What happens on the day

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take longer on a large roof than a small one, and the build-up of the roof makes a difference too. Somewhere like Wildhern needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.

  1. We agree the area to be tested.
  2. We get the roof ready for testing.
  3. We work across the roof with the test equipment.
  4. We mark the breach locations in our records.
  5. You receive the results to pass to your roofer.

How to prepare

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

What you can safely check yourself

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
