Gutter survey in Bow
We survey gutters and rainwater systems in Bow and right across London and South East England. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view from ground level, windows, the loft space and the roof where it’s safe. A visit normally takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. If you’re worried about valley or box gutters that overflow inside and soffits marked by water, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Bow are listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How we price gutter surveys
When we price a survey, we consider:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How big the roof is
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You’ll know the price for the job before booking.
Helping us price your survey
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, tell us:
- The property’s address and postcode
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
What we do, step by step
The visit has one job: to look at the gutter as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Cottages and farmhouses around Bow often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, like damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can be seen safely.
- Where it is safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- A written report with photos and recommendations follows.
Preparing for the visit
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Leave side gates unlocked

For landlords and managing agents
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.
Bow homes and their roofs
Longworth House, about 4.3 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Bow. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Stanford in the Vale Church of England Primary School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. Take an older house close to Church of St Denys: the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.

How the survey changes by roof type
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Joints and fixings are the weak points on metal gutters. Any leaks or corrosion we spot go in the report.
Fascias and soffits
Fascias carry the gutters, so rot in the boards can loosen the whole run. Damaged or stained boards are recorded.
What this survey cannot tell you
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
- Confirming asbestos in older rainwater goods

FAQs for Bow
Do you carry out roof surveys in Bow?
Yes, Bow is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Bow?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
How long does a gutter survey take?
For a house, expect about 1–2 hours on site, and longer for larger or complex roofs.
What do I do with the report?
You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Do you look in the loft space?
If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.
How do I book a survey in Bow?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
What else we do in Bow
Why get it checked now?
Climbing a ladder to look in the gutters yourself is risky. You can see drips and overflows from the ground but hidden gutters are another matter. Our survey covers what can safely be seen and records it with photos. In a small place like Bow, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.
