Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Brookgreen
Most blocked gutters are full of leaves, moss or silt. Buildings near trees collect more and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether any overflows are doing their job. The photos show you exactly what we found. Blocked gutters are easy to put off but it rarely improves. If you’re worried about overflowing valley or parapet gutters and choked outlets or hopper heads, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on outlets and hoppers, valley gutters and downpipes alike.
Some older homes in villages like Brookgreen are listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is frequently expected.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Gutter surveys in Brookgreen: local notes
Brookgreen lies within about 1 mile of the sea, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Metal fixings and flashings corrode faster in salt air, while gales work at loose ridges, slates and tiles, and driving rain gets into whatever gap is left. Thatch survives on some older Isle of Wight buildings, and the whole island is open to sea air and wind. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.
With Mottistone Manor about 0.9 miles north-east, the area around Brookgreen has a long history. Older homes in the area may have roofs that need matching materials when work is done.

Do you need a gutter survey in Brookgreen?
Most gutter joints rely on seals or sealant that wear out. Plastic sections expand and contract with the weather so their joints can start to leak. Cast iron joints can corrode and part where the paint has failed.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Joints that drip after rain
The streets around a church like St. Mary's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

Leave it or get it looked at?
Damp walls are sometimes blamed on the wrong thing. When rainwater goods are the source, treating the wall alone will not solve it. Checking the gutters first helps you spend in the right place. Older and listed buildings around Brookgreen may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.
Prices start from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

The survey, step by step
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes about one to two hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older roofs in small places like Brookgreen can have low, tight loft spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- First, you tell us what you’ve seen, such as overflows or damp.
- We look along the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level and from windows.
- Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can be seen safely.
- We look in the roof space, where there’s safe access, for signs of water getting in.
- You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.

Practical tips
Getting the most from a gutter survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Look for green streaks or damp patches on walls
- Book gutter clearing once a year, more often near trees
- Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
For let and shared buildings, the report can go on file to help plan maintenance. Photos make it easier to explain the work to owners, tenants or contractors.
Look at the gutters from indoors or the ground when it pours. Water spilling over the edge or out of a joint is a sign that something needs attention before the walls suffer.
Brookgreen: your questions answered
Will you come out to Brookgreen?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Brookgreen, take more of a battering?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Exposed details like ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch, and Brookgreen is within about 1 mile of the coast.
How much time does the visit need?
A visit usually takes an hour or two for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. We will give you an idea when you book.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
How much is a gutter survey?
The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all with VAT included. For a price for your building, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Is there a good time of year to book a gutter survey?
You can book at any time of year. Booking before autumn and winter gives you time to plan though problems often show up after heavy rain.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
What affects the cost of gutter surveys
To price your survey, we check:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Roof area
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.
What to let us know when you get in touch
A few details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
We survey roofs seven days a week. To arrange a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.
When you need someone else
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
- The inside of buried drains
