Chalgrove Gutter Survey
We take a careful look at the gutter at your property in Chalgrove, and put it all in a report with photos.
- Leaks at the gutter joints
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
Gutter survey in Chalgrove
Gutters have to slope gently towards the outlet or water sits in them. Sagging brackets and slipped joints leave water standing and overflowing where the gutter dips. We check the line of each run as far as we can see it and look at the brackets and downpipe clips. You get written recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. If you’re worried about gutters that have fallen out of line and downpipes that are split or coming away, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on valley gutters, downpipes and outlets and hoppers alike.
In a smaller place like Chalgrove, some roofs stand more exposed to wind and rain than in a built-up town. That weather tells first on ridges, verges, chimneys and flashings. A careful look shows whether anything has started to loosen. Once one ridge tile or slate moves, wind gets under the next one too.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photographs show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

Chalgrove: your questions answered
Will you come out to Chalgrove?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Is Chalgrove in the area you cover?
Yes, Chalgrove is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Chalgrove as anywhere else.
Will I get photos?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we’ll recommend the right survey. We survey on any day of the week.
What does the report include?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
What’s the price of a gutter survey?
Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. The size of the property and the access affect the price. For a price, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Will you look at parapet and box gutters as well?
Yes, where it’s safe to see them. We look from vantage points, the roof space and the roof itself where safe, and by drone where it’s applicable.
For landlords and managing agents
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
What we do, step by step
We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a smaller place like Chalgrove, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can frequently be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- We ask about overflows, damp or leaks you’ve noticed.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from the ground and vantage points.
- We check hidden gutters, such as valleys and parapets, where it’s safe to see them.
- We look in the loft space, where there is safe access, for signs of water getting in.
- We send a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Advice
What we’re asked to look at in Chalgrove
Sometimes a gutter struggles with the area of roof draining into it. Added roof area from an extension can load an older gutter and the weakness shows in a heavy downpour.
Common reasons to book include:
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Gutters full of debris and silt
- Soffits marked by water
Anyone responsible for a site like Chalgrove Community Primary School will know that a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

Tips from our surveys
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
- Check the loft with care after heavy rain
- Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
- Get the gutters cleaned out every year
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. It is sent to you by email once it’s done.
Watch your gutters from the ground or a window during heavy rain. Overflows and dripping joints are a sign to act before damage builds up.
What we can’t see
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
- Gutters out of sight from every safe vantage point
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Gutter surveys in Chalgrove: local notes
Historic houses like Adwell House, about 4 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Chalgrove goes. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof. West Oxfordshire’s older buildings often carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

Can I check my roof myself?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
