Independent gutter surveys in Crockerhill

Gutter survey in Crockerhill: what you get

Your gutters take the rain from the roof and lead it away from the walls. If they clog, drip or sag, the water ends up somewhere it shouldn’t and that normally means the walls or the inside of the building. We check the full rainwater system above ground, including gutters, valleys, outlets, hoppers and downpipes. You get a written report with photos. If you’ve noticed valley or box gutters that overflow inside and leaking or loose downpipes, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.

We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

Crockerhill questions

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Fareham station?

Yes, that is a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and we can send the report to you or your agent.

Will you come out to Crockerhill?

Yes, Crockerhill is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?

Overflowing gutters often lead to damp walls, and we check for exactly that. If the cause looks like something else, the report says so, based on what we can see.

Do you use drones?

Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

When is the best time for a gutter survey?

There is no wrong time. If you’ve already seen a gutter overflowing, it’s best not to wait as overflowing water can damage walls.

Is a Saturday or Sunday visit possible?

Yes, we carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays as well as weekdays. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us to arrange it.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Crockerhill

Crockerhill lies within about 3 miles of the sea, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.

If you run a business near Fareham Shopping Centre, knowing the roof’s condition lets you budget for work rather than pay for emergencies. Take an older house close to Church of St Nicholas: corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. Anyone responsible for a site like The Henry Cort Community College will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

Crockerhill is about 2 miles north of Fareham, in Hampshire. If you’re in Crockerhill, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: a call or an email, a price, then a date. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for Portsmouth.

Why act early in Crockerhill

A written report gives you a dated record of the gutters’ condition, which helps when you plan work or brief a contractor. Without one, it is guesswork from ground level. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.

What affects the cost of gutter surveys

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • House, block, shop or office
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Helping us price your survey

These details help when you contact us:

  • When you need the report by
  • Anything about access we should know
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • What’s prompted the survey

Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.

What we do, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Older rural homes like those around Crockerhill can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
  2. We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
  3. We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
  4. Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
  5. Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Tips from our surveys

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Make sure downpipe clips are holding
  • Leave gutter checks at height to someone equipped for it
  • Keep climbers away from the eaves
  • Have gutters cleared at least once a year

If anything in the report is not clear, ask us. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey comes with an in-person one.

Do not forget valley, parapet and box gutters. They block in the same way as the gutters you can see but they’re much harder to spot, so ask for them to be included when gutters are cleared.

Can I check my roof myself?

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

Honest limits

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Hidden sections we cannot view safely
  • Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
  • What’s behind fascias and inside walls

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.
