Gutter Survey in Hundred Acres
A careful look at the gutter at your property in Hundred Acres, with photos and a written report.
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
When you need someone else
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- What’s behind fascias and inside walls
- What’s hidden inside a downpipe
- Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Gutter survey in Hundred Acres: what you get
Most blocked gutters are full of leaves, moss or silt. Buildings near trees collect more and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether overflows are working. The photographs show you exactly what we found. Blocked gutters are easy to put off but it rarely improves. If you’ve noticed leaves and moss blocking gutters and fascia boards damaged by overflowing water, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Hundred Acres, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. We report on whatever is safely visible, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.
What you get is a clear record of the gutter on the day we saw it. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Hundred Acres
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
Gutter surveys in Hundred Acres: local notes
Hundred Acres is within about 4 miles of the coast, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.
If you own a rental within reach of Fareham station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. If you live in an older home near Church of St Nicholas, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.
Hundred Acres is about 4 miles north-east of Fareham, in Hampshire. In Hundred Acres, as across Hampshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire, large and small. Our Portsmouth page covers surveys nearby.

What’s near Hundred Acres
For rail, the closest station is Fareham station, about 3.5 miles south-west. A little further out are Fareham Shopping Centre (3.3 miles south) and Portchester Castle (4.7 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include St Clair's Meadow and Portsdown Hill.
Common roof problems in Hundred Acres
Gutter brackets work loose or corrode with age. Wet leaves and silt add a lot of weight, and that weight pulls sections out of line. Once the fall is lost, water sits at the low point and spills over.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Dripping or leaking gutter joints
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Water backing up from a hidden gutter
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
Shop and office owners around Fareham Shopping Centre may find that a dated report on the roof is useful for planning and for any lease discussions.
What to check before booking
- When you will get the report
- What exactly goes into their report
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
Leave it or get it looked at?
It is easy to put damp down to the wrong cause. If a leaking gutter or downpipe is the source, other work on the wall will not stop it. Checking the gutters first helps you spend in the right place. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Hundred Acres, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Prices start from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included.

Questions from Hundred Acres
Is my home in Hundred Acres listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
I let a flat near Fareham station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, letting agents and landlords book with us as well as owners. Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the building.
How much is a gutter survey?
Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. The price depends on the size of the building and how easy the gutters are to see. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. Photographs are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only if it is safe. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
How long does a gutter survey take?
Most visits to a house take about 1–2 hours, with commercial buildings nearer 3–4 hours.
How the survey works
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Rural addresses near Hundred Acres can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.

Tips that help
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Check downpipe clips are holding
- Check the loft with care after heavy rain
- Keep climbers away from the eaves
- Have gutters cleared at least once a year
Report times depend on the package you choose: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. We email it to you as soon as it is ready.
Look at the gutters from indoors or the ground when it pours. Overflows and dripping joints are a sign to act before damage builds up.
