Boarhunt Gutter Survey
We carry out gutter surveys in Boarhunt and the rest of Hampshire. We survey on any day of the week.
- Hoppers and outlets full of debris
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
Why get it checked now?
Small gutter faults rarely fix themselves. Each heavy rain puts more water where it shouldn’t be, on walls, timber and sometimes inside. Getting it surveyed now shows what needs attention first. Outbuildings and barns around Boarhunt are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Gutter survey in Boarhunt
A gutter needs a steady fall towards its outlet or water sits in them. Sagging brackets and slipped joints leave water standing and overflowing where the gutter dips. We check the line of each run as far as we can see it, along with the brackets and downpipe fixings. Recommendations are written down and prioritised by urgency where relevant. If you’ve noticed sagging gutters and loose brackets and valley or box gutters that overflow inside, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a small place like Boarhunt, many roofs stand in the open, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A roof report shows what needs attention first. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to.

Different roofs, different checks
Box and secret gutters
A secret gutter is tucked under the slates or tiles at an abutment or valley, so they’re easy to forget. We look at what’s visible and note what isn’t.
Fascias and soffits
Most gutters are fixed to the fascia, so rot in the boards can loosen the whole run. We note soft, stained or damaged boards we can see.
How the survey works
We’ll ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. For a village or hamlet like Boarhunt, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.
Before we arrive
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

What this survey cannot tell you
It helps to know what a survey will not do before you book:
- The inside of buried drains
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
- Gutters out of sight from every safe viewpoint
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Fascias and soffits
- Outlets and hoppers
- Valley gutters
- Eaves gutters
- Downpipes
- Parapet and box gutters
What you can safely check yourself
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Common questions in Boarhunt
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Boarhunt?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Can a landlord with a rental near Portchester station book a roof survey?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
Are you insured?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Will you check if gutters are causing damp inside?
Leaking gutters and downpipes are a common cause of damp walls, and the survey looks for that. If the cause looks like something else, the report says so as far as we can tell from what’s visible.
Is Boarhunt in your area?
Yes. Boarhunt is part of the area we cover.
Will the survey check for asbestos?
No. We do not carry out asbestos testing. If rainwater goods or soffits look like they could contain asbestos, we note it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.
What a gutter survey looks like in Boarhunt
Boarhunt lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask.
If you own a rental within reach of Portchester station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. Take a building like Cams Hill School: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time. If you run a business near Fareham Shopping Centre, a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak.
Boarhunt is about 3 miles north-east of Fareham, in Hampshire. Boarhunt is one of many places we visit across Hampshire, for houses, flats and commercial buildings. Across Hampshire, we cover Boarhunt.
