- What’s hidden inside a downpipe
- Pipes below ground level

Gutter survey in North Fareham
Owners get in touch after seeing an overflow, finding damp or planning ahead for winter. Landlords and managing agents use it to plan maintenance and buyers sometimes want the gutters looked at before they exchange. Whoever books, we inspect and report in the same way with photos and clear recommendations. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. If you’re worried about leaks at the gutter joints and water spilling over the gutter edge, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Some older homes in villages like North Fareham are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What happens on the day
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. It typically takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere like North Fareham needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.

Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
Signs you need a gutter survey in North Fareham
Hidden gutters are often lined with lead or another sheet covering. Splits and blocked outlets in these gutters can send water straight into the building, because there’s no outer edge for it to spill over. Lead linings can also be stolen.
Problems we come across often include:
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
- Water backing up from a hidden gutter
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Overflowing eaves gutters
If you live in an older home near Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

North Fareham: your questions answered
Do roofs near the sea, like those around North Fareham, take more of a battering?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Exposed details such as ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch.
Is my home in North Fareham listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
How do I arrange a gutter survey in North Fareham?
Simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.
Do you survey at weekends?
Yes. Surveys are carried out seven days a week. Just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email to arrange a day.
When is the best time for a gutter survey?
You can book at any time of year. Before the wetter months gives you time to plan any work though problems frequently show up after heavy rain.
Useful tips for North Fareham property owners
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
- Look for downpipes coming loose
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Book gutter clearing once a year, more often near trees
Once work is carried out, keep an eye on the gutters in the next downpour. Rain should flow to the outlets and down the downpipes. If it does not, tell whoever did the work.
Watch your gutters from the ground or a window during heavy rain. Water spilling over the edge or out of a joint is a sign that something needs attention before damage builds up.
Gutter surveys around North Fareham
The coast is about 2 miles or less from North Fareham, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whatever the covering, it is often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
If you look after a building such as Harrison Primary School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you own a rental within reach of Fareham station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak.

How we price gutter surveys
Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Which survey package you book
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT.
