Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Furze Platt

People book a gutter survey when gutters overflow, when damp appears or before the wetter months. Landlords and managing agents use the report to plan upkeep and buyers sometimes want the gutters looked at before they exchange. Whoever books, we inspect and report in the same way with photos and clear recommendations. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. We survey fascias and soffits, eaves gutters and valley gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are dripping or leaking gutter joints and blocked outlets and hoppers.

In a smaller place like Furze Platt, homes range from older cottages to bungalows and newer houses. Coverings range from slate and clay tiles on older homes to concrete tiles on many later ones. On older homes, chimney stacks, valleys and gutters are usually where the work is, and the fixings under the coverings matter too. Nails and battens under older coverings often give out before the slates or tiles themselves.

The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

How the survey changes by roof type

Aluminium and other metal gutters

Metal gutters can suffer at joints and where different metals meet. Any leaks or corrosion we spot go in the report.

Fascias and soffits

Overflowing water stains soffits and rots timber. They’re looked at as part of the survey.

Gutter surveys in Furze Platt: local notes

Cliveden, about 2.6 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Furze Platt. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.

Living close to Braywick Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn. If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Take a building like Furze Platt Senior School: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

What this survey can’t tell you

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
  • Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
  • Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Eaves gutters
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Downpipes
  • Valley gutters
  • Parapet and box gutters

What happens on the day

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the gutter as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. The visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. For a survey in Furze Platt, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. First, we agree the areas to focus on.
  2. Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
  3. Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
  4. We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
  5. You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

Before the survey

  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Questions from Furze Platt

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Furze Platt?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Do you cover smaller places like Furze Platt?

Yes, Furze Platt is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.

Do you test soffits or gutters for asbestos?

No, that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor. We point out materials on older buildings that could contain asbestos so it can be checked before work starts.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

Why it is worth a survey now in Furze Platt

A gutter clear-out takes the leaves away, but it does not tell you why a gutter overflows. Our survey also looks at falls, joints, brackets, outlets and downpipes, so you know whether there’s more to it. Homes in smaller places like Furze Platt can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Each storm lifts it a little further.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. We confirm the price for the job before you book.
